WHAT?!? No TV! * and other SMART goals *

Image

Today was a good day. It started off with a 30 minute walk with Nova at the dog park where we enjoyed the mild weather (-3C) and got our daily dose of Vitamin D. Then I was pumped to get started on my fitness goals!! As a counsellor, I know that it’s oh-so-important to make SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timely), so I took that knowledge into consideration while making mine. I also started reading “More Than A Bucket List” by Toni Birdsong to help me follow my plan of an adventurous and healthy year. It’s a great book, and small enough to throw into my bag. I recommend it. OK, stay on topic Amanda…

Goal One: No TV for a week. Sounds easy. Not. That means no Fringe, no True Blood, no Walking Dead, even if it’s PVR’d! No mindless channel surfing while I’m playing games on my phone and definitely no eating in front of the TV! Yikes. I can do it! I know I can!! I have not even gone close to the remote so far today…

Goal Two: Do ten wall squats per day. I used to do wall squats when I was in cheerleading. The were hard back then, and even harder now! I managed to do all ten today, and then could barely push in the clutch when I wanted to leave the gym because my legs were too shaky!!

Goal Three: Complete three training sessions from Couch To 5K and two yoga classes. I did one C25K today. I even pushed myself to start at Week 2 (not because I think I can run, but because I have to be able to do 10 whole kilometers in just 10 weeks!! Practicing for 5km over the next 8 weeks just won’t do!!) Speaking of running at the gym, while I was running and walking my laps I kept passing this super-muscle-man on the weight machines. Every time I passed he gave me a funny look. So I’m thinking to myself, “Sure, I’m smiling and grooving along to my favorite songs and yes, I’m slightly overweight and probably look a bit jiggly while I run but come on, don’t be so rude, dude! Curvy chicks can run and have fun too!” Then I passed a mirror and realized that not only is my face redder than a ripe tomato, but my “smile” looks more like a constipated grimace. Hmmm, I should work on that…

And, last but not least, Goal Four: I must drink at least 1 litre of water per day, and not have any pop or juice. Overall, this goal is more of a “get back into good habits” goal and shouldn’t be too challenging for me, but it might be difficult tomorrow since I plan to be the designated driver for the New Year’s Eve party, but I will definitely try!! I have no qualms about bringing my pretty pink water bottle to a party, no siree!

Well, that is about it for my goals today. I just have to say though, that I started recording my daily food intake, and have been watching all the nutritional values. I can not BELIEVE how much sugar and carbs I normally eat. I was honestly nearly at my sugar goal for the whole entire DAY after BREAKFAST!! And all I had was Kashi Go Lean Crunch and Oikos fruit-on-the-bottom yogurt. Good to know, good to know.

Oh, and one more thing. When I was in Japan I met a Japanese guy who taught me a new Japlish word – “muskinny” – it means to be muscly and skinny. I tried to explain that we would call that “lean” but really, muskinny just seems to fit so much better!
